Theme nights are often the perfect cure to a bad week. Gidget, a blender full of pina coladas and prank calls to the Bahamas are usually more than enough to make you forget there's some sort of weather bomb outside your window.

Your pals at the Roberts Street Social Centre (5684 Roberts Street) are making a theme night as easy as possible for you with Dinner and a Movie. And they are looking for hosts! In their own words:

"Dinner and a Movie is a social way to share tasty food and watch great films. On Sunday evenings in winter you can eat a home cooked meal prepared by volunteer chefs and then watch a movie that they've chosen to complement the food (or maybe the other way around). We are currently looking for hosts for the fall/winter. Pick a movie and a meal to match, and we’ll reimburse you for up to $45 in ingredients. Email dinner-and-a-movie@robertsstreet.org to book a space"

So get off your duff and plan that shit. I'd love to hear some good movie/dinner combos in the comments. Unrealistic ones are fine.

Survey Asks

Do you agree with Halifax's school board cutting 152 teachers?

  • Yes, the board needs to meet its shrinking budget.
  • Only if managers and bureaucracy get a similar cut.
  • I don't care, I support the private education system.
  • No, giving young citizens the best education is too important to cut.
