Evan d’Entremont, a fisherman out of West Publico on the south shore, has been selling his catch at the Dartmouth Farmers’ Market in Alderney Landing for about four years, care of his son Jimmy d’Entremont. Earlier this summer, the family enterprise grew by taking over the former Ducky’s space---Evan asked his daughter Joline d’Entremont and her husband Oussama ait Oumenni to move back from Montreal, where Joline was teaching school, to open Evan’s Seafoord Restaurant (466-2118). The restaurant sells a solid menu of fish and chips, scallops, clams, fish burgers, seafood chowder, lobster poutine and lobster sandwiches, all using Evan’s fish. There are gluten free options, too, made with bread from Mahone Bay’s Schoolhouse Gluten-Free Gourmet. Joline, the public face for the restaurant, convinced me to try the gluten-free, and I’m happy to report it’s down right tasty. As well, the restaurant sells the smoked and frozen fresh fish from the Farmers’ Market counter. With the old interior wall and raised platforms removed, the space is a welcome and inviting change, overlooking the harbour, with patio seating as well. Hours are Tues-Fri 10am-7pm, Sat 10am-5pm and Sun 11am-5pm.

Survey Asks

Do you agree with Halifax's school board cutting 152 teachers?

  • Yes, the board needs to meet its shrinking budget.
  • Only if managers and bureaucracy get a similar cut.
  • I don't care, I support the private education system.
  • No, giving young citizens the best education is too important to cut.
