Now that that other election is out of the way, let’s talk municipal politics, baby.

The most recent “Urban Report Survey” from Corporate Research Associates has incumbent mayor Mike Savage with a 70 percent lead over challenger Lil MacPherson.

The telephone survey of 400 HRM residents, conducted between July 26 and August 6, found that 85 percent of those with a stated preference would support Savage for a second term. Only 15 percent said they’d vote for MacPherson.

Twenty-two percent of those phoned were either undecided or didn’t have an opinion on the matter, while six percent preferred neither candidate.

That’s not the best news for MacPherson, though the restauranteur was humble about her odds of beating Savage from the beginning.

“The chances of me getting in are really slim, and that's OK,” MacPherson told The Coast back in April when first announcing her candidacy. “I just feel I need to be a voice. I need to be a green voice.”

Missing from CRA’s poll is cab driver Paul Boyd, who—up until the last couple of weeks—at least appeared to be running for mayor. Boyd had been trying to crowd-fund $500 to “stay in the election” past September 1, and recently took to the HRM Election Facebook group complaining about potential vote tampering. Boyd also accused the police and Savage of being in a conspiracy against him because of several tickets he’d recently been issued by the cops.

All of those posts were later removed, as it appears was Boyd’s Facebook page. So it’s probably safe to once again count him out of the race.

Candidates will still have up to September 13 to file paperwork and make their campaigns official. Electronic voting will commence on October 4. Check out a full list of key election dates here.
