Storytelling our City maps Halifax
With shared stories, postcards and ideas

As part of the Black Rabbit Festival (and a fundraiser for this summer’s White Rabbit Festival), Performance in Progress—a group of theatre enthusiasts, musicians and community collaborators—are mapping out our city with stories.
Storytelling our City asks “what is a city but a collection of its people, places and the stories that weave them together?”
Co-organizer Rachel Caroline Derrah is interested in hearing the “stories that go unheard.” The evening aims to “weave the mythology of Halifax together,” says Derrah. “To find common themes, find a bigger picture by weaving together invisible stories”
In order to find these stories, they need your help. Performance in Progress ask that you pick a favourite place in Halifax, spend some time there “in the dark and light” and complete a survey on a postcard capturing the essence and stories of that place (postcards and surveys can be found at Java Blend on 6027 North, and the survey questions will be on Facebook). These postcards will be collected and placed on a huge city map.
Participants will be grouped together and will tell their shared stories. Like show and tell! This Monday, February 20 at the Eye Level Gallery (2159 Gottingen, 6:30pm, $4) expect “everything from light hearted personal stories, to big ideas for Halifax's future”
