DaPoPo’s marvelous month-long Live-In

Get off the couch and take in some readings and workshops.

November. Summer days are far behind and endless winter is just around the corner. It’s enough to make a person want to hole up in a nice cozy living room until spring arrives.

Well, DaPoPo Theatre is offering a creative and affordable antidote to those blues and blahs: a month long “Live-In” at The Living Room Theatre on Agricola. They’re putting on 14 nights of workshops and play readings (pay by donation) as well as a 10-night run of Christopher Hampton’s provocative When Did You Last See My Mother? ($10/ticket).

The idea was hatched when members of the DaPoPo collective decided to book theatre space for the entire month of November so that there’d be no hassles finding somewhere to rehearse the Hampton play. Having the space provided the perfect opportunity to host an ambitious cultural event.

“DaPoPo has been considering offering a series of in-house skill-share workshops for a while, and then we thought ‘Why not open up those workshops to other theatre artists and members of the public?’” says Live-In producer Steven Bourque. “So far we have had a good mix of theatre crowd and friends of the theatre crowd, and hope to see that trend continue with more workshops and play-readings coming up, and word of mouth spreading the news.”
