It’s a credit to the five talented performers in 11:11 that I didn’t have a clue as to their ages until I picked up the program after the show. My guess would have landed them in there mid-teens, while it seems they are actually in their early 20s. The reason that any of this matters is that the play is about 10-year-old Veronica (Rebecca Falvey) and 13-year-old Hannah (Kristin Slaney), sisters who share a lovely bond and a passion for an anime television show called The Golden Spider Trio. It requires actors who are in touch with what it means to be a child, and these actors are. As the off-the-wall television show characters, John Han, Meghan Hubley and Jessica Barry are bursting with energy. Falvey is utterly charming as the quirky younger sister and Slaney is brilliant as the older sister who is teetering on the brink of change. The songs are catchy and the message about living your dreams and embracing change is uplifting. Despite some sound issues, I’d highly recommend 11:11 as a great example of exciting new theatre at the fringe.
